Zatikon DownloadChronic Logic released Zatikon by mid-April and it took me two weeks to get around and look at it for a review of its own. Frankly, I was hesitant to check on it after finding out it’s a multiplayer online game of sorts (due to my history of getting too addicted on MMORPG’s), but since it’s a free game anyway, I guess it’s worth telling you guys all about it, and what to expect before you download one for your own.

Zatikon is such a weird but unique name for a game and currently, I can’t find a reason for the game to be named as such. All I know is that the game settings focus on medieval times, where units like knights, bowmen and pike men are your primary characters. There’s no storyline involved in the game too, and after starting it up and registering your account, off you go on your first campaign against a computer opponent or against the available players on chat.

Starting up a mission, you are first greeted by a chessboard-like interface of eleven-by-eleven cells. On a one against one match, you have your castle firmly attached at the middle bottom of the board. I had no chance to go against other players for a two-against-two party, so I can’t comment much on where your castle will be if you have four players on the screen. But I guess the same mechanics still apply if you happen to find other players to go play with, so if by chance there’s just a few players online, I suggest tell your friends to download so you can all go and have some crack at the game.

Moving on, the main objective of each match in Zatikon is for you to invade your enemy’s castle by moving a friendly unit on its location. The first step in each map is the deployment, wherein you’ll be able to release units available on your inventory into the field for combat. It’s up to you to decide on how many you’ll need to deploy. Just make sure they’ll survive the whole encounter since unit availability in this game is of most importance.

Zatikon DownloadUnits have their own strengths, weaknesses and special abilities. Obviously, magic and bow users have longer range, and units on mounts can travel longer distances on the board. You can review each of their features by clicking on the unit and reading the display at the right side of the screen. And initiate unit movement and attack depending on the available actions you have for each of your turns.

Zatikon is turn-based, meaning that you can’t do anything else when your opponent is on active mode and playing his units. Good thing that each turn is timed and you can use the available time to plan your next moves. Of course, when you’re all set, you can always end your turn even though there is remaining time left on the clock.

Zatikon features neither amazing graphics nor sounds that can put you in awe. There are some basic animation in the game like knights losing their horses and wolves transforming as werewolves, but don’t expect much eye candy since you’ll probably just be disappointed with the current state of the game.

What the game offers though is a unique and addictive gameplay. It’s simple, yes, but that simplicity is what makes the game shine like that new plug-and-play device you bought for your computer. And since it is an online multiplayer game, you can make sure that you’ll experience something new every single time you play as you go against opponents you haven’t faced before.

Zatikon is also free to download and play, and leveling up and earning gold means you can acquire more units just like any other player in the arena. However, if you find yourself wanting to unlock other characters, you can always purchase expansion packs for a chance to gain advantage against the computer or other human players.

All in all, it’s definitely worth your try whenever you have time for some simple online gaming fun. What’s more, you can tell your friends about it, grow the community, and gain other friends as you interact with them at the chat function of the game.
