If you’re one of those people longing for some change in the casual gaming scene, the Tradewinds Caravans game will surely fill in that longing as we get to review today this casual RPG Adventure installment from Sandlot Games. And much like Sandlot’s Westward series, this time around you get to guide 6 adventurers on their journeys as they walk along the path of the fabled Silk Road.
Tradewinds Caravans starts its unique gameplay once you get to choose your character. Each character has his/her own story to tell and each will take you also on a different area within the path of the Silk Road. In case you don’t know, the Silk Road extends all the way from Constantinople to Chang’an, which basically means that it’s going to be one heck of a journey from each of these adventurers, giving you hours and hours of gaming time as well.
The game also features a very dynamic gameplay as you prepare your caravan for each perilous journey. Hiring bodyguards in the Guild to keep you protected in your journey, buying pack animals to carry your goods and other items, and buying items for trade are only some of the tasks you should regularly do for every town visit. And once you’re out there on the field, you have many things to worry about too, most of all the bandits which will attack your group and take your money. But careful planning and budgeting will almost always give you the edge, so smart playing is definitely the biggest rule you should take in mind whenever you play the game.
One thing I really liked about Tradewinds Caravans is the balanced market fluctuations during the course of your trading quests. Yes, the item prices are constantly changing whenever you travel from one town to the next, but I really appreciate how the changes won’t significantly surprise you when you have to make critical buy and sell decisions. That doesn’t mean though that you won’t face any challenges during trading because, well, in my opinion, it’s really one of the hardest-to-master skills in this game.
Another thing worth noting is the storyline of each character in Tradewinds Caravans. I found the stories so much engaging and fun. For example, Yu Quian’s adventure tells the story of a handsome monk on a pilgrimage to erase his mind off of amorous women, and eventually the search for the missing Holy Sutras. The dialog between the different characters are just plain funny, and during the course of the story, you’ll just have to appreciate Yu Quian’s efforts in avoiding the various women who would want to have a piece of his masculinity.
Anyway, Tradewinds Caravans is really one dynamic RPG Adventure game and all I can say is that the 1 hour trial won’t get you too far also in exploring most of its features. However, it’s better than not trying at all though, right?
