The Race
Hidden Object Games, Puzzle Games August 9th, 2008
Before, the Amazing Race reality TV show really got me wondering on how fun and exciting it is to travel around the world while taking part on a race for awesome prizes. Now, Gogii Games presents us with the same excitement with The Race game, a Hidden Object casual game set in the location of certain key places in the whole world.
And just like the Amazing Race, your first task in The Race is to create your team and choose your avatars for the whole journey. After creating your team, you are then given a choice to either compete against other contenders in the Challenge Mode, or explore the whole world within a relaxed pace in the World Explorer Mode. The actual game interface is just like any other Hidden Object game where you’re presented with a list and you have to find all the objects within that list to advance to the next play area.
In Challenge Mode, the game is not timed and there are no penalties for spam clicking for hidden objects. To compensate, you’re also presented with the Race Timeline interface where you can monitor how well you’re doing against your rivals. Basically, each found object will advance your avatar a little on the timeline, and your primary aim is to reach the goal at the end of the timeline (or in other words, find all the hidden objects) before any of your competitors reach it before you.
This gameplay spans throughout all the countries within the Country Championships, Continental Circuit and World Tour, with each country having their own set of play areas. Eventually, finishing a country will earn you awards depending on how you did well on that particular leg of the race.
The Race game won’t be complete without its share of hints and power-ups too. In fact, there are a total of 4 helpful tools for you to use and you’re given one of each tool for every scene. Tools include the Magnifying Glass that helps you look closer on the scene, the Hot n’ Cold Cursor that freezes or fires up when you’re getting near an object, the Compass that points you to a hidden object’s direction, and the Bomb to knock an opponent a few steps backward the Race Timeline for some of that dirty tactics fun.
The Race is really one well-presented game and its whole idea of pitting yourself against the CPU instead of the age-old timer is unique in its own way. The span of sceneries is just amazing as the whole game covers most of the famous parts of the whole world, and I find the exhilarating pace of the Challenge Mode both fun and exciting as well.
