One of the most famous (if not the most famous) word games in the world is back in an addictive sequel that hopes to continue on the success of its predecessor. Text Twist 2 features the same old Text Twist gameplay but at the same time, adds in an array of game modes suggesting a whole new letter-scrambling experience for all fans of the original game.

In retrospect, the mechanics of Text Twist, the original game, is for you to form words by rearranging up to seven letters of the alphabet and earn points from each word you form depending on its length. Furthermore, in order to for you to continue on the next level, you have to form a single word using all the letters given to you, giving birth to what is known as the Bingo Word. Basically, it’s an infinite game, but very addictive too since backing the game up is its tremendous success as one of the most recognized word games around.

I guess owing much to this success, it’s really no surprise that Text Twist 2 follows the same gameplay mechanics especially on its Timed and Untimed modes of play. This time, a new interface greets the player wherein the word list appears on top of the screen, with the rest of the bottom dedicated into solving word puzzles. Furthermore, you will now have to contend with up to eight jumbled letters. I know it’s quite daunting as it sounds, but due to the randomness of the words in each level, you’ll really never going to predict what word length comes next.

Besides, you now have a skip button too, which you can press up to two times in each game instance. I hate to use it though, but for you guys who aim for top scores, it really becomes a valuable resource for Text Twist 2.

A real surprise to this installment is the additional game modes you can play if you’re already getting tired with the classic text-twisting. Now, you can play Word of the Day if you just need a quick two minute gaming fix before you’re off to your daily tasks, play Lightning mode for a more action-packed gameplay, or even play Crossword, which is in my opinion, the greatest twist in Text Twist 2. Pun intended, but I guess you all know what I mean.

Anyway, in Lightning mode, your objective is to form the most Bingo Words you can muster within the time limit. Forming words will add more time to the game clock and if you’re struggling, letter hints will be given to aid your efforts. Crossword mode plays just as the name suggests – it’s a crossword puzzle where you form words out of the letters of a single long word. In this mode, there’s an underlying strategy to form the Bingo Word first, but is still pretty challenging depending on the crossword form.

Text Twist 2 greatly improved in graphics and sounds, and I just loved playing the original gameplay as well as having good long rounds against the new modes of play. The addictive nature of the game is still there and its infinite appeal is definitely put into mind, being injected also on the new game modes. Also, the trophy system adds a great deal of motivation to the player, ensuring that you’ll play this game for very long hours without much means to stop.
