Shadez: Black Operations
Online Games August 27th, 2008
When the government wants to show military suppression but doesn’t want to get involved with all the havoc that comes with it, they hire mercenaries to do their dirty work for them. And in the Shadez: Black Operations game, you play as a General of a certain mercenary group off to do missions against an unending military force that will test both your tactical skills and will to survive.
Shadez: Black Operations is a game made by Sean Cooper and sponsored by Crazy Monkey Games. It is supposedly the first in a series of planned games to bear the same title so I guess the success of this one will see how far this series will go. The game features a real-time strategy action involving all kinds of explosive goodness, and really, all flash gamers just love them explosions on all their games, right?
Your task in the game is to deploy troops, weapons and missile strikes against your advancing opponents to keep them at bay and suppressed. At first, you’ll be limited on your choices of armaments, but eventually, you’ll be able to research for more destructive weapons after given funding from all your efforts. Defend against your enemies’ attacks and give them a taste of your own, and just don’t let them reach beyond your base, or else you’ll lose life points in the process.
One thing limited about these kinds of games is how numbers will always determine whether you win a level or not. But still, I find playing Shadez: Black Operations to infuse a little strategy too, but don’t expect greatly aside from planned troop deployment and perfectly timed air-strikes.
I loved how the game was presented as well, since the black silhouette of army shapes greatly enhances the whole war-like experience of the game. And while the game can be quite repetitive over-time, all those explosions can be very addictive as well. I guess you really can’t blame me for loving those effects.
