Ride!
Action & Arcade Games May 15th, 2008
Honestly, it never really occurred to me that there will be such a computer game made dedicated to the fine sport of equestrianism. Well, horse racing, yes, but equestrianism, never! Until of course, the Ride! game, an equestrian simulation Action game just recently released from the Big Fish portal. Of course, just like what I think of golf, equestrianism is for me, a very boring sport. Well, yeah, I don’t know much about them fancy sports, but let’s just talk about the casual game now, shall we?
Anyway, the whole objective of Ride! is for you to compete on tournaments ranging from 3 types of horse Olympic disciplines. The game lets you choose from these 3 modes of play which includes Show Jumping, Eventing, and Dressage to start off your blossoming career as an equestrian. Basically, each form of discipline involves you competing in tournaments and events after you get to train your horse for match quality, and afterwards, just try to win each competition for your own career’s sake as well.
One thing so great about the Ride! game is how much real it is in terms of how simulation games should be. By that statement, I’m not talking only about how stunningly real the graphics are and how much it really feels like you’re actually riding a horse, but also the many circumstances presented in the game. In fact, you can only choose 1 horse for a particular avatar you create in the game, much like the fostering of bonds between a rider and his horse in real life and that just feels great, doesn’t it?
While I did feel that Ride! focused more on the exciting world of equestrianism, some of the game play can be very confusing still even after much time of playing. In other words, controlling your horse can be very daunting in this game, I guess much like riding a horse in real life. Now I know that I’m not fit to be an equestrian, heck, my fingers can’t even catch up to being a good one in-game!
