Supposing that you already reached the pinnacle of success in serving burgers, what will you do next? Starting a cooking school can be fun. Because in the Restaurant Rush game, Heidi comes back after graduating from Burger Rush to prove that she’s more than just a burger cook and that she can manage her own restaurant as well. Now where does the cooking school come in? Read on!

The story of Restaurant Rush follows from the last episode of Burger Rush where Heidi had successfully reached burger-serving superstardom. This time around, she wishes to start her own cooking school, teaching people how to become good chefs. The World Cooking Federation has other plans however, after they stopped Heidi’s plans and ridiculed her for just being a burger cook.

Anyway, with the help of Uncle Willard providing her a shop to start with, it’s now time for Heidi to start her restaurant career. And it’s up to you to help her work on her cooking skills and prove to the world that she’s capable of starting her own cooking school in this Match 3 and Time Management fusion of a game.

Much like Burger Rush, your objective in Restaurant Rush is to serve various dishes to customers before they get irate and leave your shop for good. In comparison to other Time Management games, preparing food is different in this installment though, since you have to match 3 same ingredients depending on a certain dish’s recipe. In fact, I believe that Restaurant Rush is more inclined towards the Match 3 genre since there’s really not much difference between customer types and obstacles in the game are presented within the Match 3 interface.

All in all, you just have to match ingredients depending on the orders, serve the food after preparations are done, and collect the payments afterwards. Further down the road, you can add soup and iced tea to the trays for more tips, and give desserts to replenish customer patience. Try to reach expert status to earn more game tokens and move from restaurant to restaurant in each area after beating a level.

Restaurant Rush also features a variety of upgrades to aid you in serving for customers. Upgrades range from equipment upgrades to the quality of each ingredient you serve and can be bought through tokens. You can also buy various recipes and desserts from the shop, all in all adding to the repertoire of your restaurant and earning you more money as well. Honestly, I think this game has too much upgrades. But thinking about it, this feature also gives the game its dynamic feel and choosing upgrades will either spell victory or defeat as you progress through the game.

Aside from upgrades, power-ups are available during the actual Match 3 interface too. Examples of power-ups include the stove, which burns an entire row of ingredients and the cash register, which provides extra tokens aside from those you get by achieving bonus objectives. After some time of playing, Heidi can also get invited to take part in cooking showdowns, so be sure to achieve first place on these mini-games to earn more money and tokens.

In terms of presentation, I liked the character illustrations in Restaurant Rush especially the vast array of zany customer types like the Supergeek, Opera Lady and the German Bodybuilder. Sounds are excellent too including the funny voice-overs, and I found the gameplay to be very smooth as well.

One surprise included in Restaurant Rush is the alternate ending feature. An ending will depend on how you played the game and through your many game decisions. All in all this assures that you won’t see this game as short-lived just like most casual games of its type.
