The Pet Shop Hop game developed by Mean Hamster Software and published by PlayFirst follows the same naming convention as Dress Shop Hop, wherein we’re yet again following the story of one of Flo’s (from Diner Dash fame) business minded friends. This time around, you play as Cassie, zoology major and pet lover extraordinaire, as you try to save her grandfather’s small fish store business from the wrath of the great Megapet Superstore. And since you’re much too business savvy than just selling fishes, Cassie’s dream is to turn her grandfather’s pet shop into a great megastore on its own by selling quite a variety of pets, and hopefully, give Megapet Superstore a run for their money in the process. :-)

Just like many Time Management games, the objective of Pet Shop Hop is for you to achieve a set target of earnings per week of work in order to move on to the next round. Of course, you can always target a higher amount of cash to be labeled an “expert” and well, earn bragging rights for getting the coveted star too. Serve your customers well by giving them their ordered pets accurately and on time, and basically, that’s all there is to it. However, that’s also easier said than done, so expect massive confusion typical on games of this type during the later parts of your play time.

The great thing about the Pet Shop Hop game is its many features, options and customizations that will really have you planning frantically your next move whenever a particular customer is too specific on his/her order. In fact, you’ll also have to feed, clean and organize your pets whenever the need arises, and surely, that means more attention needed on your part. While I really loved the challenge presented on this game, all of that clicking around can get pretty frustrating too. And since the whole pet store play area is not fitted on a single screen, I also find the need for screen-scrolling quite annoying whenever there’re so many customers.

I honestly liked the graphics and music presented by Pet Shop Hop but the game play is not that smooth because I find myself having occasional mis-clicks throughout my game. The game economics is very nice though because other than just upgrading your shop, you also have to buy the pets to sell before each week, and that aspect of the game is pretty fun in my point of view. I also liked the fact that some of the story characters get involved in the actual play other than your cute little mascot walking around the whole shop. Some sightings include Flo, the Diner Dash heroine, and your rival from Megapet Superstore. You won’t see that on many casual games, so that’s really a plus factor for me.

All in all, the Pet Shop Hop game offers a fun, challenging and customization-packed approach to Time Management gaming. The theme is really not that unique but I guess that’s one of the minor things you should be worried about considering casual games. And aside from the game play clicking problem, then Pet Shop Hop can be another solid title coming from PlayFirst.
