Paradoxion
Brain Teaser Games, Puzzle Games April 19th, 2008The Paradoxion game coming from Indie Games publisher Slave Circus and developer VSB Games is a one of a kind Brain Teaser puzzle game that aims to truly challenge your logic. Packed with 90 levels of steadily increasing difficulty, Paradoxion delivers a real big punch into casual puzzle gaming unlike other already-mediocre games within its genre.
The objective and mechanics of the Paradoxion game are very easy to understand and grasp. All you have to do is to clear the board of all elements comprised by orbs, gems, blastoids, paradoxes or a mixture of them all. And to do just that, you also have to comply with the rules by which these elements govern their disintegration.
Now, I’m quite aware that you guys already know what orbs and gems look like, but what exactly are blastoids and paradoxes?
Basically, blastoids are orb-like elements that go boom when affected by element shifts, and paradoxes are… well… elements surrounded by a complete paradox that no man can well describe. Ha! I’m kidding really, but honestly, I can’t describe their effects very well. One thing’s for sure is that they can be pretty annoying, and with other inventory items such as disintegrators and shifters, I bet that it’s going to be a long review if I’ll be describing them all one by one.
The Review
At first look, the Paradoxion game plays just like any other ordinary puzzle game, but after some time of playing, I really enjoyed it and found the game to be very distinct in its own way. The first tutorial levels can be very easy, but slowly and steadily picks up after each stage until to the point that you’ll already doubt your logic on later levels. And that’s definitely a good thing considering that puzzle games are meant to be difficult anyways, right?
I liked Paradoxion’s graphics and the static space backgrounds are really nice. The stellar-themed music is too soft for my taste but relaxing nonetheless and the overall game play is very smooth. I found the increase in difficulty to be comfortable enough also and the game actually has this buffer of levels too for you to learn the behavior of each element before you take on the next one, making the challenge not too overwhelming for many casual puzzle fans.
Not limited to just the 90 difficult levels, the Paradoxion game also introduces custom made levels for more gaming fun available for download right at VSB Games’ forums and a level editor for you to make your own levels. I bet this is the best thing about this game, but honestly, I still haven’t played a bit on the included level editor. Anyways, I still can’t finish the whole 90 levels myself for over a week already, so I guess it won’t bother me for now.
