The story of the OceaniX game from developer, iSADA team takes you to an underwater world aboard a big submarine on the quest to gather hidden treasures buried under the deep blue ocean. While I can’t really expound more on that because, well, that’s all there is to this game’s story, it’s still fascinating to know that you’re not alone on your treasure-hunting adventure. And on that cue enters Mr. Brave Captain, whose job is to tell you that you’ve done a good work for every stage that you clear.

Yeah, honestly, I think he’s worthless too. But you know how it gets lonely in the bottom of the deep, right? :-)

Anyway, as for the game mechanics, OceaniX is actually a Match 3 game where your job is to click on groups of 3 or more gems (or sea creatures) in order to gather them until your inventory reaches 100%. This is not the only objective though, as you will also have to play traditional Match 3 tile-removing, therefore adding that additional challenge to the game. Oh, and before I forget, you’ll also have to contend with the time limit for every stage, which, in my opinion, will be your greatest concern throughout the whole puzzle.

Of course, games like this won’t be complete with its share of power-ups too. There are 3 major power-ups to activate by collecting coins scattered randomly on each stage. But there are also other miscellaneous power-ups that pop up on the actual play area. While they are really not that explosive nor impressive in my point of view, they still add that little flare to the game, and for me, this little extra is very much welcome. :-)

The Review

In terms of ingenuity, I must say that the OceaniX game is really lacking and could use some more creative juice. The game play is really not that unique and actual play can get very repetitive over time after, say, reaching half of the number of levels. I’m disappointed about the lack of action too except the lightning power-up. Maybe the game is just too mild, but since I’m expecting big explosions from Match 3 games, OceaniX just leaves a negative impression in my standards.

I must say though that the graphics are quite good and since the game has this peaceful theme, the music can be a good choice too. The 3 criteria for finishing each level can also be a pain, especially the timer, but unfortunately, after unlocking the 3 power-ups, the difficulty curve of the game just drops down to a mere casual trot.

All in all, I didn’t like OceaniX that much but of course, you can still prove me wrong by trying it out yourself. I bet too that you’ll get to finish more that half of the total levels on the 1 hour trial, and I guess that makes this game worth the download too, right? :-)
