Neverland
Hidden Object Games, Puzzle Games October 15th, 2008
Before anything else, I have to say first that this isn’t any Peter Pan game. Neverland is actually about a grown woman named Diana sick of her everyday work and boring lifestyle, and during this dire situation, just wished to become a child again, carefree and filled with fun. Thankfully, she has her past to reminisce with within the lonely walls of her room, and then, she began to dream…
Without her knowing, she begun dreaming of her past life and about an imaginary world named Neverland. But is the adventure that followed afterwards still a dream? Since many of her interactions are already alternating between the real world and her dream, she doesn’t even know anymore what to believe. But this time, she’s going through an adventure, and oh boy, little Dee Dee just loves adventures!
Anyway, Neverland is actually just like any traditional hidden object game where you’re tasked to find objects listed on the right side of your screen. The only thing is that this time, you have only toys to think about because it seems like this imaginary place is crawling with infinite amounts of them. But what’s new in this installment though is how the toys look like they have a mind of their own, and with a crazy place like this one, it’s really not that surprising.
Toys, when they get bored, will begin dancing and talking about random things, and if that’s not enough, they will try hiding hints and power-ups on their backs too so you’ll have to drag some of them around to find hidden bonuses. Toys will also ask for other toys and will reward you with more bonuses if you attend to their requests. And if all of that is not enough distraction to you, infinite bubbles will start to appear when you make consecutive miss-clicks, somewhat punishing you for not doing a good enough job.
Really, this game is just filled with unending distractions, which it’s a good thing that a whistle power-up can be used to keep the toys from talking too much. There’s also the feeling that you’re trying to find the same toys over and over again during the whole course of your adventure, making the game very repetitive and tiring. And while the scenes are presented good enough, it’s still hard to distinguish the toys from each other, especially those with animal designs.
But still, Neverland still presents a very good storyline when put in line with other hidden object games. Each stage will reward you with the next installment of Diana’s story, and while I admit that it’s quite weird, it’s still so much fun to watch until arriving at the characters’ resolutions.
