We’ve already followed two of Her Interactive’s Nancy Drew games since the conception of this blog and the overall feedback had been mostly positive for this first person adventure game. And now, I’m real proud to introduce to you guys our review of the Nancy Drew: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake game, the seventh Nancy Drew installment where our teenage heroine is off again to solve another mind-boggling mystery.

Just to inform you guys, Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake actually came right before The Haunted Carousel game was released from Her Interactive’s portal. Our latest Nancy Drew review before this one which is The White Wolf of Icicle Creek is already her 16th game. And all in all, Nancy Drew had solved about 18 mysteries in the form of adventure games. Now, that’s one busy teenage detective, eh?

Anyways, sorry for delaying you guys with a bit of trivia. I guess lets just get to talk about the game at hand, shall we?

Nancy Drew is off again to start another adventure as her friend Sally asked for Nancy’s help in solving the mystery of her newly purchased house and land within Moon Lake, Pennsylvania. The thing is that this old house has a bit of a bad history in it since its original owner is none other than the notorious gangster, Mickey Malone. Mickey is real fond of his four dogs and symbols of this love can be traced all around the manor, including the creepy cemetery included on the property. Known for his cunning self, it took police a long time to pin down this criminal, until such time when he was eventually put into jail and didn’t survive during his sentence.

This was years and years ago, and Mickey and his dogs are now definitely counted among the deceased. But what’s bothering Sally is that the dogs kept visiting the property every night since she moved in. With glowing, yellow eyes, they had been named the Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake for years since Mickey died. But for ol’ trusty Nancy Drew, there’re no such things as ghosts and obviously, this is really one mystery she can’t possibly pass up.

Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake features the same interface as with The Haunted Carousel, but unfortunately for the faint of heart, this game is much darker and sinister than its sequel. As always, it’s your task as Nancy Drew to talk to people, find clues and solve puzzles that will lead you into discovering the root of all the mystery. And frankly, this installment has lots and lots of puzzles to solve that will sometimes leave you scratching your head on what to do next.

As expected, the overall presentation is very nice and since you are given a choice to switch between day and night environments, the game’s overall impact during the night is just plain awesome. The sounds are creepy and thus, blend well with the forest environment. And all the graphics are beautifully rendered, even on the timing of character lip movements as they correspond to the voice-overs.

It’s such a shame though that you can only interact with 3 possible suspects in this game, but they are all equally sinister anyway, so I guess the number’s just fine. Most of the time, you’ll find yourself lost for clues too just like all of Nancy Drew’s games. But if you’re one real adventure gamer, the Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake will definitely keep you satisfied with hours and hours of snooping fun.
