Jewels of Cleopatra 2: Aztec Mysteries
Match 3 Games, Puzzle Games July 5th, 2008
The Jewels of Cleopatra 2: Aztec Mysteries game is the sequel to the unique Match 3 installment, Jewels of Cleopatra, made by Boomzap Entertainment and Encore Software, Inc. On this second game, you get to play again the infamous Dr. Felicity Turnstone, as she travels deep into the heart of the Aztec civilization in search of their relationship with her earlier Egyptian findings.
Coming back from her first adventure, Dr. Turnstone took a much needed break and went in touch with her old friend, Dr. Akamen Shuffles. Shuffles is going to show her an authentic Aztec painting and much to Turnstone’s surprise, the Aztec Princess Chantico is wearing an Egyptian headdress reminding her of her studies regarding Cleopatra. Of course, with all that curiosity running around her head, Turnstone is again on the quest to uncover the truth about this mysterious relationship, as she travels through Aztec labyrinths while avoiding traps, obstacles and enemies along the way.
Just like its predecessor, Jewels of Cleopatra 2: Aztec Mysteries entails you to make Turnstone reach the door on the other side of the maze by matching tiles along her way. Matched tiles will turn into gold and once a path is made for Turnstone to walk on, you can then guide her to your preferred destination. You can also just set the location on which you want Turnstone to go to if you’re too busy matching tiles. One great thing about this game is that the computer automatically sets the nearest path for her to walk on, which means that you can just worry about getting around her enemies and other various obstacles while she walks on her own towards the intended goal.
Each level has its own secrets too, which means that you can explore optional mini-games and other surprises before you walk to the finish line. Mini-game doors contain… um… mini-games that are mostly dependent on luck, and there are a number of switches too that can trigger lights, movable platforms and on later levels, even trigger traps. One thing you must remember though is that each level is given a time limit, giving you a limited opportunity when it comes to further exploration.
Power-ups are also easy to come by since you just have to match 4 or more tiles to make a random power-up appear. Power-ups range from ones that give you a set of 9 gold tiles to step on to winged boots that can make you walk faster. Basically helping you out as you contend with obstacles like spider webs, rocks and other enemies that make this game much harder than your average linear tile-matching casual game.
Making a comeback for Jewels of Cleopatra 2: Aztec Mysteries is the racing mini-game that you get to play after getting through a set of levels. But this time around, instead of racing stag beetles, you get to race armadillos, which is by the way, Shuffles’ prized armadillo to be exact. There’s also this mini-game where you’re tasked to repair a broken Aztec mosaic and of course, you get to do battle with your arch-enemy Shady McGrady once again for each level’s last stage. And just like the original game’s mechanics, your aim is to reach the artifact before he gets to the same door himself.
Jewels of Cleopatra 2: Aztec Mysteries is really one very addictive Match 3 game that you can play for hours and hours until the end. The original gameplay from its predecessor is retained on this one and you just gotta love all that frantic tile-matching action while you try to save Turnstone from being drowned to death. I have to give props to the story too, which is very engaging and honestly, very believable. And all the presentation involving graphics, sounds and gameplay are all very well thought of as well.
All in all, its just one very good and unique game, and I suggest you guys go try it for yourself as well.
