While many a Time Management game had already tackled taking care of pets before, there had never been one that puts emphasis in taking care of fish. Until the Jenny’s Fish Shop game coming from Alawar Entertainment and Owl Studio.

Ever since Jenny was still a little girl, her parents had always taken her to the beach as they work as lifeguards. Jenny then developed this passion for taking care of fishes and other aquatic marine life, and dreamt of working for an aquarium facility once she grows up. But fast forward to the present, Jenny is all grown up and ready to take on the world. And starting her own fish shop business is already much more appealing than just working for somebody else.

Anyway, your main task in Jenny’s Fish Shop is to wait for fish orders, put the fishes in an available aquarium and take care of them until they are ready for selling. Each kind of fish has its own specific needs in terms of habitat, so the next step is to put all the right interiors for each fish depending on what they ask on their thought bubbles. Afterwards, you just have to keep feeding the fish until they are fully grown and cater on their other needs too like turning on lighting, air compressors and giving them medicine among a few.

But before all the action takes place, you have to choose your store mascot first. You are given a choice between Sharky the fish and Taz the turtle for your store helper before you start the actual game. Each has its own pet skill that will help you take care of your fishes better. But be warned though, you also have to keep your mascot fed and happy just like your other fish pets before you get rewarded with the use of their abilities.

Jenny’s Fish Shop also features a mini-game where your task is to keep seagulls from pecking the newborn baby turtles. Click on the turtles to urge them on running towards the sea, and keep your eyes peeled for seagulls diving towards the poor little creatures. Anyway, you just have to slap them silly once that happens, and if you’re successful enough in keeping the baby turtles safe, Jenny will be awarded a speed boost for the next level.

What I really liked about the whole gameplay though is the amount of planning involved adding to the already frantic nature of the game. Bonus points are awarded once you make combos in mixing aquarium interiors. Other additional points can also be given once you breed a single kind of fish on the same aquarium. And since points are needed to buy additional upgrades, it’s very important that you also plan well how you breed the fishes.

All in all, Jenny’s Fish Shop can be quite dragging at its first few levels but steadily picks up once you’re already tasked to take care of more exotic fishes. While in my opinion, the one and only mini-game is not too engaging enough, I guess it’s better than no mini-game at all. Anyway, the overall presentation is really very nice, and if you buy the right upgrades during the first few levels, you’ll find the flow of the game very addicting too.
