James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet
Hidden Object Games, Puzzle Games June 4th, 2008
James Patterson, the award winning author of the well-known Alex Cross books (e.g. Along Came A Spider), got one of his Women’s Murder Club novels adapted into a casual Hidden Object installment with the James Patterson’s Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet game from I-play and Floodlight Games. This time, you’re tasked to find clues and uncover the mystery behind a series of murders involving some secret Chinese organization. But unlike most Hidden Object games, Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet presents some unique twists of its own too, instead of the usual finding-stuff-only kind of game play we all used to play.
Just like many of the crime-themed games released in the Hidden Object genre, Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet features a many clue finding, puzzle solving and murder scene checking sequences with a little dab of laboratory and research work here and there. One unique feature this game has though is that it lets you control 3 of the members of the Women’s Murder Club in order for you to solve each investigation. Leading the pack would be the principal character and San Francisco Homicide Detective Lindsay Boxer, and helping her with all the research and lab work would be her friends, Dr. Claire Washburn and crime reporter, Cindy Thomas.
Anyway, as far as the Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet game goes, the whole gaming experience is definitely filled with much adventure in the likes of Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express. The many mini games are very engaging and fun and all of the scenes are beautifully made. Although most of the hidden objects are too small to scrutinize, the whole search-and-click endeavor is not timed anyway, therefore, some mouse-click spamming is sometimes necessary.
As for the presentation, Women’s Murder Club: Death in Scarlet features a great presentation in both graphics and musical score. Seriously, I just can’t find anything wrong with this game except the aforementioned little-object finding. So, I guess that if your eyesight is not that poor, you’ll definitely have great fun with this game.
