Home Sweet Home Game Review
Action & Arcade Games, Time Management Games December 17th, 2007BigFishGames.com now offers us a fun way to try out interior designing with their new game offering Home Sweet Home.
First Impressions
Well, what can I say. At first glance, I thought that this game is just some The Sims rip-off. I mean, just looking at the game mechanics where you’ll buy stuff and design rooms for your neighborhood reminds me very much of the celebrated Maxis game. But since this is a casual game, what the game features is quite limited.
What You Really Do Inside The Game
Basically, you’re an interior designer working for a woman by the name of Dee Ziner (and yes, I’m not making that up). She gets clients for you to work on to test your designing skills. And with her is another in-game helper by the name of Bill Dur (yes, lotsa fun on the names), who will be in charge of introducing you to your workers.
In case you would like to ask, you’re workers are named normally as Brian, Gorian and Liz. =P
Simply put, you get design requests from clients and then buy
stuff to fulfill their requests. You are given a budget and a quota on how much furniture and add-ons the room needs before you’re done with it. This means that you need to budget very well, as the ‘Design Guru’ mode of the game won’t let you have many mistakes.
After the designing stage, you then go to building the request where you have to keep your 3 helpers happy, healthy and within schedule. Else, you lose money.
What I Think
Well, I did have fun on my 1 hour check on the game. The gameplay is quite smooth and the game prevents any unwanted building glitches to occur whenever you place items on the building site. Counting the challenge factor of getting the job done perfectly, I was really hooked.
Challenge was not the greatest points of the designing factor though, since whenever you may have made a mistake, you can always find the ‘Reset’ button for a nice re-run of the previous scenario. That would be good for those who gets easily frustrated though. And believe me, when you hear what your clients would be asking for, you’ll be scratching your head as if you’re infected with lice.
What I don’t get also is why your helpers seem to want you to do their job most of the time. Even throwing the trash needs your attention. Well, I guess it’s just their way to put more challenge to the game. In reality, I won’t embrace that idea though.
Overall, it’s really fun and quite challenging. Click management frustrations come on the building stage but that’s where the fun is. If you fancy designing rooms with nice furniture, or if you want a miniature version of your The Sims game, then I suggest you get this Home Sweet Home game and enjoy!
