Fishdom
Match 3 Games, Puzzle Games June 23rd, 2008
Taking care of fish in real life is really lots of hard work. That’s why time-pressed geeks like me are very much thankful for games like Fishdom from Playrix Entertainment, where you get to enjoy all the benefits of a full-sized aquarium without the hassles of taking care of fish.
Moving on to the game, Fishdom is actually a Match 3 game where your objective is to buy, breed and take care of fish through a variety of designer aquariums. The actual Match 3 game earns you money for buying fish, decorations and aquarium fixtures, and then you’ll have to go visit the shop screen to spend all your hard-earned money. That’s all there is to it, but of course, this game has its own surprises too.
But first, talking about the gameplay, Fishdom employs a traditional swap-and-match action prevalent on most released Match 3 games. Your main aim is to break all the specially-colored tiles before the timer runs out, and of course, earn the most money possible from all successful matches. On later levels, you’re faced with locked tiles too, which is actually nothing new also for casual gaming fans.
Power-ups are awarded by achieving several game requirements. There are a total of 3 power-ups ranging from the low-damage firecracker, to the highly explosive bomb, to the devastating lightning icon. You have minimal control over the appearance of power-ups though, but that feature actually adds more challenge to the game.
What’s real amazing about Fishdom though is the number of customizations you can place on your very own fish tank. You can unlock other aquarium designs by reaching trophy goals and each aquarium set gives you more fishes and designs to play on. And if you long for quiet relaxation, the game has its screensaver mode too, where you can just watch your fishes swim their hearts out while you go rethink your own life (well, that’s what I do anyways).
Fishdom has real good graphics and music, and the gameplay is as smooth as silk. While the Match 3 action is already lots of fun, the simulation game really adds in some very nice dynamics to the game, not to mention getting to see some good fish physics too in the process. All in all, this game is really addictive and it’s only flaw maybe its lack of originality in form.

Cute and addictive game. Similar to Kahuna reef chain reaction but this is more fun. The graphics reminds me of Insaniquarium. Any one think so?
