Hollywood had always been known to be a place where dreams come true, but in reality it seems, everyone here has their own big problems too to take care of. Just like what’s in store for you in Detective Stories: Hollywood, where you play as private investigator Angela while you try to solve one of the biggest problems catalogued in Hollywood’s history.

Angela is known to be one of the best private investigators around and that’s why she was hired to solve a very big problem faced by one of Hollywood’s most prestigious production studios. She is tasked to find three things – ten million dollars, the only copy of the studios’ most recent film and one very famous actress that went missing with the other items. All in all, Angela is definitely challenged. But with her persistence and your help, everything will eventually fall back into place.

Detective Stories: Hollywood is actually just your typical hidden object game where you fulfill tasks given to you for each level you play. There’s really nothing new about the game’s overall gameplay, but you get to play a great variety of hidden object game types anyway so I guess it’s all good. Don’t expect anything unique though, besides little scene interactions from time to time, but on the other hand, you’ll be bombarded with so many tasks to do in each scene, which means that you’ll probably get your money’s worth when it comes to the overall length of the game.

What I appreciate most are the little mini-games randomly injected during the course of your investigation. Mini-games range from random puzzles, brain teasers and even solitaire games. Most of them are very easy to play and finish, but essentially, it takes your mind off of the many eye-straining tasks for a while and effectively adds interest to the game as well.

The overall presentation of Detective Stories: Hollywood is very good and even though the items blend well with the scenery, they are still distinguishable and not much pixel-finding is involved in locating them. The storyline adds further interest to the gameplay too, in fact, the story gets updated after each task you fulfill, meaning you’ll be seeing many of Angela throughout the whole game.

It seems though that the developers are trying too hard to create a very long storyline for the whole plot of the game. Most of the time, Angela plays the role of a slave after each encounter with several of the game characters. She’s tasked to find things, fix broken stuff and even clean their places without any apparent reason at all. I don’t see the value of what she’s doing but as explained after a while, she says that she has nothing better to do anyways, so she just sticks to it.
