Intenium brings to us another game installment of their famous Beetle Bug series, but this time around, it throws away the usual platformer to test the waters of match 3 gaming in Green Valley: Fun on the Farm. And yes, it’s a whole new plot too since you won’t be saving any of Beetle Bug’s kids this time and will just venture into business within Uncle Billy Bug’s old rundown farm.

The thing is that Beetle Bug just inherited an old farm from Billy Bug, and with the help of his two kids, hopes to bring the farm back alive and profit from the process. To help him achieve his dreams, the mechanics of the game brings you into linking 3 or more same types of crops within the specified time limit until you reach the quota harvest for each level. Gathered crops will fall into baskets for Beetle Bug to collect, and just try to waste fewer crops too by ensuring that baskets are on the ready to catch your harvests.

Match 3 games are always accompanied by power-ups and Green Valley: Fun on the Farm made sure it won’t fail into that criterion. Matching more crops in a single line will create a corresponding tile power-up (depending on the number of tiles you match) that are generally there to help you clear more crops. Mega power-ups are also charged during actual play, giving additional functions to the gameplay, like adding more baskets for Beetle Bug to collect and summoning sheep heads to help you gather random crops from the field.

There are also fun mini-games you get to play to earn more bonus money. Shearing sheep is the primary mini-game where you have to catch white sheep with your scissors before they escape the screen. Another mini-game can be optionally played too in the farm overview screen, where you’re tasked to click on birds and have them explode to keep your crops healthy and earning you bonus points in the process.

All in all, Green Valley: Fun on the Farm is really one game you’ll definitely enjoy. I loved the overall presentation of the game especially the funny dialogues between Beetle Bug and his 2 children. With several game modes and hilarious mini-games, this is just one fun match 3 game you’ll be happy playing until the end. The only downside though is the lax difficulty curve, but it easily picks up though during the game’s later levels.

02-21-2008 Casual Gaming Weekday

Yesterday, when I talked about reviewing more online flash games on this blog, I actually thought that was impossible if our sponsors will continuously release very good casual games everyday. Brainstorming for ideas, I initially thought that we needed a new linkfest aside from our weekly Online Gaming Weekend, but doing another online gaming linkfest will definitely make the weekend idea very redundant. So, I guess we’ll just have to resort to a better solution.

Introducing The Casual Gaming Weekday

The Casual Gaming Weekdays will definitely solve many of our blog problems. And to show you how, let me enumerate some of the problems it will resolve:

  • This opens up quite a slot for us to review and introduce you guys for more and more online flash games. This means that in a week, we will have 2 days assigned for linkfests and then 5 days will be allotted for online flash game reviews. ;-)
  • Reviewing online flash games can be a real time saver. There will be little or no downloading involved and I can definitely take advantage of the extra time to polish my writing. :-)
  • My readers love online games better. I just don’t know if they just visit this blog from time to time just to check if I introduced another online game. :-P

Of course, there will be many disadvantages also, especially when it comes to the monetization part. Honestly, I’m having second thoughts about this because this move will definitely lower down the affiliate commissions I earn from our sponsors. But well, I really wanted to do what I enjoy most, and a gut feeling of mine tells me that I’m doing the right thing. Readers first, the money can follow later, right?

So, will you like this move too? I hope you will.

Anyways, it’s already high time to get linking, so let’s get started.

I have to say though that purchasing some of these games can really help fund the blog. However, it is never compulsory to do so. :-)

SpongeBob Atlantis SquareOff Game Review

Let’s all dive to the ocean land of SpongeBob Squarepants today as we review our absorbent hero’s most recent adventure with the SpongeBob Atlantis SquareOff game from Kid games publisher Nickelodeon.

Thwart Plankton’s Most Evil Plan Yet!

The SpongeBob Atlantis SquareOff game lets you take control of SpongeBob as he plans to overthrow Plankton after the evil fast-food magnate diabolically promoted himself as King of Atlantis. Before Plankton could seal his success however, he needed other vile sea creatures to follow his path to conquest, and by planting black flags all across the ocean floor, he intends to do just that.

The objective of the game is pretty interesting. It’s a turn-based Action & Arcade where you have to grab the flag to finish a level and defeat the creatures that block your way by using a variety of card moves stacked inside SpongeBob’s underwear. Budget your energy for every turn, smash barrels to reveal hidden items, and collect more cards for more attack, defense and other movement options. Prepare for your next battle also by choosing the deck of your choice card arsenals, and plan your way across the map to emerge victorious in the battlefield.

Just a friendly tip: Always leave enough energy for a shield defense after every turn. This way, you’ll have SpongeBob defended even if an enemy suddenly goes near and attacks you. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well, you just gotta try out the SpongeBob Atlantis SquareOff game to know more. ;)

The Review

What I really liked about the SpongeBob Atlantis SquareOff game is the turn-based game play that reminded me of some NES game that I played when I was just a kid (I can’t remember, sorry). However, it is also disappointing that you will be only controlling SpongeBob throughout the entire game since I’m also looking forward into playing Patrick and Sandy. Yes, you can make the other characters play a part during battle mode, but physically controlling them is not possible as far as I know.

The storyline is very nice in a funny sort of way, and the silly characters of SpongeBob Squarepants are all there to add some wackiness to the game. The graphics, sound and game play are above average, and there are also nice little mini games as if all the fun in going through the main game is not enough.

Considering that this is a game targeted for kids, it’s not very surprising that the difficulty level is quite easy (if you play your cards right). I still do believe though that the SpongeBob Atlantis SquareOff game’s charm can still prove interesting for adults too, and is an ideal game to play for some of that wholesome family fun. It’s filled with hours and hours of game play and I’m sure that every SpongeBob fan will appreciate this one (all kids are, as far as I know), so I guess if you’ve got the time for some cartoon laughs it’s well worth checking out. :)

The Tuttles: Madcap Misadventures Game Review

From the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation comes a new and fun casual, side-scrolling game called The Tuttles: Madcap Misadventures. A game produced in an initiative to raise funds for ill children and their families.

The game is simply one of a kind as it features the voices of several big-time Hollywood actors and actresses. With the likes of William Shatner, Bob Saget and Jamie Lee Curtis (to name a few) lending their voices during the game’s comic cut-scenes, the game is sure to be a big hit and a big help too for the unfortunate little kids. And we’re not even getting close yet to reviewing the game itself… Well then, let’s check it out!

To Alamo!

The Tuttles: Madcap Misadventures game is all about the story of The Tuttles, a modern stereotypical family off for a vacation to Alamo. After you help Barbara Tuttle (the mom voiced by Jamie Lee Curtis) shop for equipment to be used on their trip, it’s going to be a very wild ride through deserts, oceans and other fantastic settings as the family travels within their trusty flying minivan named Vance Shepherd (William Shatner).

If the whole plot and character profiles doesn’t crack you up, the game also features comic cut-scenes and hilarious in-game comments that will surely entertain you for hours. The skit is nicely done in such a way that you’ll feel like you’re actually playing through the story and for me, that’s a very nice experience.

Gameplay, graphics and sound

I will be honest on this. For this game, all of these elements are near perfection!

I was really amazed at how much effort was done on this game. All to help ill children in need. I guess that shows how precious a game is when the people doing it are driven with passion. And really, it’s just that good - nice graphics and sound and smooth gameplay. I was even too engrossed in the game that I completely forgot about the 1 hour trial. =)

The only thing I don’t like about the game is the mouse function. While I was preoccupied on using my keyboard during gameplay, an interruption on my mouse made my character fall into an abyss of doom. That’s when I realized that you can also use mouse movements to move your character. In my opinion, the game is better off without the mouse function, but I guess I can still live with that.

If you’re not doing anything during this moment in time…

Try out the game! Really, you’ll be happy on what you’ll be getting. Not only is the game for a good cause, the overall fun-factor is well worth your time. The Tuttles: Madcap Misadventures game is a real gem and I certainly had a good time playing it and I really guarantee you a great time playing it too. =)
