Book of Legends
Adventure Games, Hidden Object Games, Puzzle Games November 29th, 2008
They say that adventure always finds the unwary and sometimes, those who don’t even want to be suck into one. Much is the same for Zoe Black in the Book of Legends game, after her brother got themselves mixed up in a centuries-old legend full of mysteries and dangers ahead of their path.
The adventure started after Charleston Black discovered an old book from the Saint Benedict’s Cathedral in Washington. He immediately identified the book to be the long lost Book of Legends which is supposedly pointing to the clues leading to the fabled sword of King Arthur, the Excalibur. Mysterious men in black are also after the book, and after a string of unlikely events, his sister Zoe got mixed into the chase, making her Charleston’s instrument in this adventure spanning into various countries located around the world.
The objective of the game is simple. Follow the riddles stated on each page of the book and explore the various locations to find more clues leading you to the next riddle. Once you start each level, you are asked by the characters to find items, solve puzzles and interact with the scene until you conclude that all needed evidences are already gathered. The game’s story develops in real time too since the characters will be talking about the clues as you gather them in each scene.
Another task you have to do in Book of Legends is to earn enough money to fund your travels as you search for more clues all around the world. You’ll be receiving various job opportunities coming from clients during the course of your adventure, which in many times entail you to find specific items and other objects for them. Earn enough money to fund your search for Excalibur and be treated to a new story development after landing on your new destination.
In my opinion, the greatest feature of the game is its storyline and how it is presented. Dialogues between the characters occur even during the actual game and I just loved the voice acting of those people who portrayed the game characters. All in all, it’s really a highly developed game, filled with stunning visuals and effects, and smooth gameplay that makes it very much addictive to play.
One flaw of Book of Legends though is its light difficulty. The game does not discourage click-spamming, which means that you can finish a level in no time flat. And there’s the forever-replenishing hint button too, showing you the coordinates of an asked hidden item instead of directly feeding you the item’s exact location.
The game is really fun to play and is kept interesting even at later levels. But as I had said earlier, if you’re longing for difficulty, the game won’t satisfy you very much.
