Bonampak Game Review
Action & Arcade Games, Brick Buster Games January 14th, 2008After much catching up on casual gaming reviews. We finally come to reviewing the Bonampak game, a Brick Buster game about the battle between good and evil. Sounds cheesy? I know. Better read on…
Bonampak? What The…
I’m quite confused at first on where the hell they got the name of the Bonampak game. But then, Wikipedia always knows, so let’s just clarify what it means.
Bonampak (Bòonam Pak’ Painted Wall in Modern Maya) is an ancient Maya archaeological site in the Mexican state of Chiapas. The site is approximately 30km (20 miles) south of the larger site of Yaxchilan, under which Bonampak was a dependency, and the border with Guatemala.
Quite fitting for the game, really!
Okay Then, How Does It Fit?
The Bonampak game story tells about your journey to the evil Tirit’s tower in order to destroy the crystal that is supposedly used to open the portal to a dark world. For you to do just that, you have to break through the obstacles of Bonampak.
Now, what’s not mentioned in the story is that the game also features ancient Maya-like graphics and sound. We’ve seen the Maya theme used over and over again on games like these. Heck, we even encountered Maya themes for Mahjong games. But you know why? It’s because in a visual level, Maya themes are very effective, and they look good when integrated into casual games.
Tell Me About The Game Then…
To be honest, the Bonampak game is the first Brick Buster game I played since Arkanoid, and just like my last experience, I had lots of fun bouncing off those silly little balls.
As I had said earlier, the visuals are really stunning (not to mention the awesome brick formations), the sound also does a good job in accompanying the game, and the gameplay is as smooth as I expected.
The boss battles after every level are also nice. And the difficulty curve is balanced through each level.
It’s kinda exciting whenever you get powerups that blasts through bricks like they’re made of glass. However, the nice little effects can sometimes make you lose track of the ball (but we’ve already grown accustomed to that right?). I also got frustrated whenever a lone brick lands on a hard to reach corner, but since that’s a challenge typical of Brick Buster games, I’ll let it go for now.
There you have it, the Bonampak game is one great Brick Buster game and I really suggest you give it a try. It’s hours and hours of excitement and I guarantee that you’ll love breaking through those bricks as I did.
