ABC Cubes: Teddy’s Playground Review

If toys are alive whenever people are not around, you might think that they go and make a mess out of the house. The toys in ABC Cubes: Teddy’s Playground are just like that, led by the most playful and messiest toy of them all – Teddy. But they make sure to clean up afterwards too, and this time around, they need your help to do it in time.

The Appleberry Family went to a week long vacation out of town, leaving the house to all of the toys. Since they love their toys so much, they left ABC cubes for the toys to play with. Teddy loved playing these cubes, and for a whole week, he and his friends managed to scatter those cubes all over the house. There’s only a day left before the family comes home; therefore, Teddy needs to muster all of his persuasion skills to convince his friends to help him clean up.

ABC Cubes: Teddy’s Playground has 2 modes of play you can choose from the main menu: Adventure and Arcade. In Adventure, you follow the progress of Teddy as he goes to each part of the house trying to convince his friends to help him clean up all the scattered ABC cubes. After finishing the 2nd level of Adventure, you get to unlock the Arcade mode, wherein you again take the role of Teddy, challenging all of his friends in a match-3 timed game.

The objective of the gameplay in Adventure mode is for you to clear all cubes in the play area. You do this by clicking on 2 or more adjacent like-lettered cubes and of course, plan your every click to have same cubes fall near each other. If you can’t clear all cubes and have no more available moves left, you’re prompted to restart the level and try again. But if you manage to empty the play area, you’re scored depending on how many moves you made, the time you spent playing and the number of combos you performed.

In later levels, you’ll have to contend with ABC cubes having more variety in letters. Aside from these, look out for block cubes too. These are blank cubes that cannot be matched and the only way you can clear them is to eliminate all of the letters beneath and have them touch the bottom of the play area.

ABC Cubes: Teddy’s Playground is not that unfair though because in-line with the challenges, you’re also presented with power-ups that can help you clear cubes faster. Each level of the game presents a different kind of power-up, represented by a character Teddy meets during his adventure. But unlike any other puzzle, you’ll have to use power-ups wisely too, because sometimes, they can also hinder your progress if used unwisely.

In Arcade mode, you also get to meet all of Teddy’s friends and use all of the power-ups you’re accustomed to in Adventure mode. However, the gameplay in Arcade employs classic match-3, making you swap cubes to clear them from the play area. In here, the objective is to make your computer opponent fall on the floor, releasing their balloons one by one. You release an opponent balloon each time the combo meter fills up. Likely as the timer goes down, you release your own balloon, making you fall too if you don’t play fast enough.

The 2 modes make ABC Cubes: Teddy’s Playground a cool blend of challenging puzzle and exciting action. Personally, I liked Arcade mode more due to its exhilarating nature, but I guess it all depends on opinion. In the 2 modes, you also get a knack out of the game’s storyline that ranges from romantic to funny. And if that’s not enough to keep you playing, get to experience the Rewards system for more encouragement, making you collect stickers whenever you achieve milestones set by the game.

Aside from its fun gameplay, ABC Cubes: Teddy’s Playground also has top notch visual presentation. Kudos to the creators for making such cute and endearing characters, all animated amazingly in its 3D background. As a matter of fact, I say that the presentation is nearly perfect. If not for some typographical errors during character dialogues, then it’s already a game without flaw.

It’s definitely a highly recommended game, perfect for children and even adults to enjoy.
