The hit farming game coming from Melesta and Alawar Games now has its very own sequel with the Farm Frenzy 2 game, a Time Management masterpiece about farming life and its many hassles.
In Farm Frenzy 2, you play as a farmer off to make a mark in produce-making history. To do just that, you have to muster enough managerial skills to keep your animals fed and happy, keep your factories running and producing farm-fresh goods, and of course, ensure that money keeps flowing by delivering all your goods to the hungry city-folk.
The mechanics of this game is simple. For each level, you’re given goals to reach in order to pass. Goals range from producing certain types of goods, to raising various kinds of animals, to reaching a target profit, all within a set target of time. Not meaning to confuse anyone, but the time mentioned here does not really mean you have to reach it in order to pass a level. You just earn more stars for completing a level within the gold or silver time, and really, stars are very important in this game to determine how well you progress.
Basically, just like any Time Management game, you have to keep your farm filled with grazing animals and food to prevent them from dying. Your initial capital will determine the resources you can purchase, but always remember that you have to manage your money too because it’s really easy to leave enough money for food once you had that initial buying urge. Buy buildings depending on your goals for the current level and immediately make the products once raw material is available.
Buying and selling is also critical in the game. In fact, I bet your delivery truck is really the busiest tool in the game since you’ll be using it to deliver goods to the city and earn money in return. Sometimes, you’ll need city-made products too, and to buy these things, using your airplane is necessary to handle all your purchases. The truck and airplane can be upgraded too, for faster and more efficient traveling.
With all that serious farming stuff, Farm Frenzy 2 also incorporates a very wacky setting. In fact, an additional task in the game includes catching bears falling from the sky and selling them for profit. I know this sounds pretty harsh, but if you don’t, they cause havoc on your farm by throwing all your animals away. But if you don’t want to apprehend bears yourself, employ dogs to do this task for you. Nice way to keep your hands clean locking away endangered species, eh?
All in all, Farm Frenzy 2 is really one very fun game to play. Perhaps, given that the first installment is already a hit in itself; the last statement is already obvious. But I guess that is worth repeating because the same enjoyable gameplay is retained for this sequel, adding little enhancements and voila! Another casual game worth taking a look at is born.
